Choosing a size
Most people should start with a sample or a mini. Tallow is concentrated and a little goes a long way, so a small jar lasts longer than you would expect from the same size in a drugstore lotion.
- Sample (0.5 oz) — roughly 1–2 weeks of face use. The low-risk way to test a scent and a texture on your own skin.
- Mini (1 oz) — about a month of face use, or a few weeks of hands and elbows. Good for travel and for keeping in a bag.
- Signature (4 oz) — our full size. For daily all-over body use, or for a household sharing one jar.
How do I use it?
Use less than you think. Scoop a small amount, warm it between your fingertips until it turns to oil, and press it into clean, slightly damp skin. Give it a minute to settle before you decide whether you need more.
Damp skin matters. Tallow seals moisture in, so applying it right after a shower or after splashing your face gives you noticeably better results than applying to bone-dry skin.
Will it feel greasy?
Not if you use the right amount. Greasiness is almost always a sign of too much product. Start with a pea-sized amount for your whole face and adjust from there.
Face creams are made with jojoba oil for a lighter finish. Body butters are made with coconut oil for a richer one. If you have tried a body butter on your face and found it heavy, the face cream is what you actually want.
Will it clog my pores?
Everyone's skin is different and no honest brand can promise one product suits every person. What we can tell you is that our formulas are short — usually three or four recognizable ingredients — so there is very little in the jar to react to.
If you are cautious, test a small amount on your jawline for a few days before using it all over. This is exactly why we sell samples.
Does it smell like beef?
No. Properly rendered and purified tallow has almost no scent of its own. Our unscented products smell faintly like nothing at all, and our scented ones smell like the scent.
The difference is in the rendering, which is the part that took us eighteen months to get consistently right.
What is actually in it?
Beef tallow is the base of everything we make. Face creams add jojoba oil. Body butters add coconut oil. Most formulas include beeswax, and scented products include essential oils or fragrance blends. Full ingredients are listed on every product page.
There are no fillers, no water, and no preservatives — because without water there is nothing for us to preserve against.
How long does a jar last?
Unopened and stored away from heat and direct sun, about 12 months. Once opened, use within about 6 months. Always scoop with clean, dry fingers — water introduced into the jar is the main thing that shortens its life.
My jar arrived soft or looks different
That is heat, not spoilage. Refrigerate the closed jar for an hour and let it come back to room temperature. Details on our Shipping page.
Is it safe for kids and sensitive skin?
Our unscented face cream and unscented body butter are the two we point people toward for sensitive skin, because they contain no essential oils or fragrance. As with any new skincare product, test a small amount first, and talk to your pediatrician or dermatologist if you have specific concerns.
Do you ship outside the US?
Not currently. If you are outside the US and want our products, email us — if we hear it enough we will work on it.
